Each page will be saved as its own PDF file. All files download together in a ZIP.

Each row below becomes a separate output PDF included in the downloadable ZIP file. Enter the pages you want in that PDF using ranges or individual page numbers. Example: 1-3, 5 puts pages 1, 2, 3, and 5 into one PDF.

How to Split a PDF Online

PDFToolShack’s Split PDF tool runs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib.js. Your file is never sent to a server — it’s loaded into memory, split into separate PDFs, then packed into a ZIP file and downloaded directly to your device. Nothing is stored or transmitted.

Three split modes give you full control. Every Page extracts each page as its own PDF — ideal for splitting a scanned document or separating chapters. Custom Ranges lets you define exactly which pages go into each output file (e.g. pages 1–5 as one PDF, pages 6–10 as another). Select Pages gives you a visual grid to click the exact pages you want to extract into a single PDF.

All output files download in a single ZIP archive so you get everything in one click.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my PDF uploaded to your server?
No — never. Your file is loaded into your browser’s memory, split entirely by JavaScript running on your device, and the ZIP downloads directly to you. No data is ever sent to any server.
What’s the difference between the three split modes?
Every Page gives you one PDF per page. Custom Ranges lets you type page ranges (e.g. 1-5, 6-10) and each range becomes its own PDF. Select Pages lets you click a visual grid to pick exactly which pages to extract into a single PDF.
How do I split a PDF into two equal halves?
Use Custom Ranges. If your PDF has 20 pages, enter 1-10 as the first range and 11-20 as the second. Click “Add another range” to add the second entry. Both halves download together in a ZIP.
Will splitting reduce the quality of my PDF?
No. Pages are extracted as-is without any re-compression or re-rendering. The output quality is identical to the original.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
If the PDF has an open (user) password, you’ll need to unlock it first with our Unlock PDF tool. PDFs with only permissions restrictions can usually be split directly.
Why do I get a ZIP file instead of individual PDFs?
Browsers only allow one file download per click. The ZIP lets you get all your split files in a single download. You can open it with any standard archive tool — Windows Explorer, macOS Finder, 7-Zip, etc.
