How to Convert a PDF to JPG or PNG

PDFToolShack’s PDF to JPG tool uses PDF.js — the same engine built into Firefox — to render each page of your PDF directly in your browser. Nothing is ever uploaded to a server. Choose your format and resolution, drop your PDF, and each page appears as a downloadable image as it renders.

The Resolution Scale controls output sharpness. At 1× you get screen-resolution images; at 2× (the default) you get sharp, print-ready quality; at 4× you get very high resolution for large-format printing. Higher resolution means larger files and longer processing time.

Choose JPG for smaller files and photos. Choose PNG for diagrams, text-heavy pages, or anything where lossless quality matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Your PDF is processed entirely in your browser using Mozilla’s open-source PDF.js library. The file is read locally, each page is rendered to a canvas element, and then exported as an image — all on your device. Nothing is transmitted to our servers.
What resolution scale should I use?
2× is the recommended default — high-quality images for most purposes. Use 3× or 4× for print-quality output. Use 1× for quick web thumbnails where file size matters most. Higher scales take longer to process and produce larger files.
Should I use JPG or PNG?
JPG is best for most uses — smaller file sizes, universally compatible, perfect for sharing and web use. PNG is better for PDFs with text and diagrams where lossless quality is critical, or if you need to preserve transparency. PNG files are larger but pixel-perfect.
Why is my PDF taking a long time?
Processing time depends on the number of pages, resolution scale, and PDF complexity. Large PDFs at 3× or 4× scale can take a minute or more. Since everything runs in your browser, performance is limited by your device’s CPU. Try a lower scale if speed is a priority.
Can I convert a password-protected PDF?
If the PDF requires a password to open, unlock it first with our Unlock PDF tool. PDFs with only permissions restrictions can usually be converted directly.
Can I convert just one page?
All pages render automatically, but you can download just the page you need using the individual Download button under each thumbnail. You don’t have to download all pages.
